Edward's version of Twilight. Partial draft.

Definitely the weakest of all of her books. I know that's not an entirely fair assessment as it's obviously not worked through as thoroughly as the others (being a partial draft and all) and therefore the writing can't be expected to be as tight, but the subject matter didn't really work for me either. Granted, it was fun to read Edward's side of things, but it seemed a bit too much like she was riding on the success of Twilight, rather than working on something that could support itself. Had it been fanfic I would have loved it. As it was, I expected more.

It's proof of her writing abilities though, that I was still completely engrossed. Her writing may not be high quality, but it's definitely captivating.

Great review -- I totally agree. I think one of the weakest parts was the narrative voice, which just didn't sound like Edward. He sort of had his own voice in Twilight, but it was totally absent here, and definitely didn't sound like anything resembling an 80-something-year-old vampire. Though as you said, this was just a draft, so maybe she would've gotten this straightened out by the time of publication. (Maybe.)

Can you believe I haven't actually read this yet? I've been tempted to so many times, but just because, I suppose, it was first leaked out contrary to Meyer's wishes, I haven't had any pressing desires to read it. I'll probably only read it if she actually finishes it and it gets published.

Give her some slack

I feel so bad for Stephanie...she has only given us the most addictive series out there right now! I could not put any of the 4 Twilights down, and when I got wind of the 5th I could not wait! But I did. I have not read the first 5 chapters that are out there because I wanted to have the entire book first; now I hear that because of everyone stealing these chapters and passing them along Stephanie is refusing to finish the series. I am actually quite upset on this news and I hope that she just understands that with fame comes these kind of things and can be taken as a compliment to her work. It was just because people could not wait to finish the series. So hopefully we can all get Stephanie to reconsider and let us know what Edward was thinking!

Just to let you know, I didn't "steal" these chapters. Some people did, that is true, but after the chapters had gotten leaked on the internet, and Stephenie Meyer decided not to finish the book, she made the chapters readily available from her own website, as she didn't want her loyal fans to feel they needed to cheat in order to read them.

As for getting her to reconsider - I would actually rather have her write the next book in "The Host" series. Personally I feel that would be a much better use of her time.
